The Ships Company meet on Tuesday nights in the lower level of the Sarnia Post Office. 

All girls and boys between the ages of 12 and 18 are invited to join us.  We invite the public to come down and visit us, and see what our program is all about.  Girls and Boys can join any time during the year, after their 12th birthday.

Tuesday evenings 18:00hrs - 21:00hrs (6:00 PM to 9:00 PM)

About Us

Royal Canadian Sea Cadets is for boys and girls from 12 to 18 years old.

This rewarding program develops leadership, citizenship and physical fitness in Canadian youth. Cadets are encouraged to become active, responsible members of their community. They learn valuable life and work skills including:

  • Teamwork
  • Leadership
  • Physical fitness
  • Citizenship

Cadets also reap the personal benefits of increased self-confidence, learning how to take initiative and making decisions. Cadets make valuable contributions to Canadian society on a daily basis in terms of environmental, citizenship and community activities and services.

Our Programs

The cadet movement is the largest youth organization in Canada. The Royal Canadian Sea Cadets bases its training on maritime subjects, such as seamanship and sailing and history of the Royal Canadian Navy. There area also subjects on such things as marksmanship, outdoor adventure training and leadership. The combined training helps to instill a number of personal skills like initiative, self-esteem, confidence, problem solving skills and awareness of environmental issues.

 

The training year runs from September to June of each year. During the summer months, cadets are selected to attend cadet summer training centres across the county, to take part in various training. Senior cadets have opportunities for exchanges to foreign countries and may also be employed at the training centres.

 

There is no cost to join the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. All uniforms and learning material is provided free of charge.

 

 

Leadership

This rewarding program develops leadership through team-building exercises, communication workshops, citizenship by volunteering throughout the community and mentorship opportunities. Cadets are encouraged to become active, responsible members of their community. They learn valuable life and work skills.

Seamanship

Cadets participate in classes
teaching all aspects of
Seamanship. Knots, bends, hitches, etc. Cadets apply this knowledge
through practical applications such as rigging, sheerlegs, etc. 

Master the art of navigation using charts, compasses, and modern GPS technology.

                                                                   

Marksmanship

Cadets are taught, in
a controlled safe environment, proper shooting skills and
techniques using the Daisy Air Rifle. They have the opportunity to
work towards their marksmanship levels and on occasion have
the opportunity to compete against other cadet units.

Band and Drill

Repulse marching band has an arrangement of brass, reed and percussion instruments. With lessons from professional music instructors our players work towards developing their performance as an individual musician, as well as a member of the band. 

 

Our drill team learns advanced drill movements and routines  for performance at inter-corps competitions and display at the Annual Ceremonial Review.
